Giles County Sheriff’s Department Response to COVID-19
As the global COVID-19 Pandemic continues to develop, the Sheriff is working diligently in collaboration with Giles County Emergency Management and other County leadership to limit the spread of COVID-19. The situation is rapidly evolving and being monitored closely. We continue to adhere to the guidelines and recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The health and safety of our employees and community members are of the utmost importance. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office will continue to uphold the laws of the State of Tennessee, provide patrol, maintain security in our jail, and investigate local crimes.
Per the Sheriff’s Department’s continued response to the COVID-19 Virus, we are no longer accepting criminal summons, citations or weekend mittimus; which does include THP cites, for bookings within the Jail. We will resume all said operations on September 2nd, barring any unforeseen events. Anyone who needs to turn their self in on a criminal summons, citation or mittimus, please call the jail to make sure we have a good phone number and address on file, so we can contact you when normal operations resume. Any questions, please call the Sheriff’s Department at (931) 363-3505.
Our Deputies are taking measures in order to manage communicable diseases and protect themselves as well as the public. We are coordinating with all local law enforcement agencies, in order to keep them informed on our current inmate admittance screening process.
As a proactive measure and in an effort to reduce face to face interactions, we are handling non-priority calls differently. Our contact protocol will be as follows: Our 9-1-1 Call Center will assess each situation as it comes in. Deputies will triage all calls. Citizens will be contacted by phone for incidents that do not require immediate officers’ presence, or non-violent calls, and may require a report. If you have any concern(s) that require you to contact any members of the Sheriff’s Department, call (931) 363-3505.
For Giles County residents, either disabled and/or of the ages 60 or older, if you need assistance including grocery and/or prescription delivery, please contact Lt. Shane Hunter and/or Lt. Joey Dickey between the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday at (931) 363-3505.
Effective immediately, our lobby services at the Sheriff’s Department located at 200 Thomas Gatlin Drive, is closed to the public.
